A TASTE of the music the cathedral choir will be singing during their forthcoming tour of the USA can be heard at a special concert in Hereford Cathedral on Tuesday, October 21.
The choir is looking forward to meeting up with old friends and making new ones when they make their fourth tour of the USA later this month, visiting, among others, St Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Pittsburgh, their hosts for the 2002 tour.
The tour will include The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania whose director of music since the summer has been Huw Williams, a former assistant organist of Hereford Cathedral.
“We are looking forward to making our first visits to Wheeling, West Virginia, and Worcester, Massachusetts,” says Geraint Bowen, organist and director of music. “We will also be singing services in the First Lutheran Church and Calvary Episcopal Church in Pittsburgh as part of their ecumenical programme with St Andrew’s. It will be wonderful to be able to share our music with so many.”
Tuesday’s concert will take place at 7pm and entry is free though donations, with a suggested minimum of £10 per person, are invited to the tour fund.
“We will have a superb time,” says Geraint. “It is certainly no holiday but we do all come back with some terrific memories and a lot of new friends.”
