A CALL has gone out to singers of all abilities to sign up for a production of Handel’s Messiah to be performed in Gloucester Cathedral at the end of next year.

December 2009 may seem a long way off, but as organiser Bill Watkins explains: “It really does need to be planned well in advance to book the orchestra and soloists.”

Bill is bringing together a choir of around 300 from the six Anglican churches on the eastern side of Ross-on-Wye, together with Gorsley Chapel and any choral societies from the area.

The production will be under the direction of Adrian Partington, director of music at Gloucester Cathedral and artistic director of the BBC National Chorus of Wales.

There will be a workshop at the cathedral on the evening of Thursday, December 3, 2009 and a morning and afternoon rehearsal on Saturday, December 5 with the performance taking place on the Saturday evening.

The cost will be £25 per participant. For details, contact Bill Watkins at Pithouse Farm, Linton, HR9 7RT, call 01989 720317 or email bill-watkins@metronet.co.uk
