HEREFORD has a rare chance to hear the authentic voice of Zimbabwe, as Imbongi, fronted by Zimbabwe’s premier dub poet Albert Nyathi, together with eight spectacular dancers, musicians and singers, provide vigorous and highly-charged performances of contemporary African music at its very best.
The beauty of the dance will meet the sheer power of the songs and rhythms of Zimbabwe, and feature South Africa’s prince of Maskanda guitar, Maqhinga Radebe.
Explosive, dynamic and visually stunning, Imbongi are a high-energy fusion, a joyous and emphatic denial of trouble and strife.
They’ve played for Nelson Mandela, at Glastonbury, Sidmouth and WOMAD.
The last time they were here in Hereford, “they were fantastic – the audience adored them and we were all transported and impressed by their energy and spirit”.
They’ll be staying in Kington for four nights and playing, singing and dancing with children from several of the county’s schools.
Nightjar Music presents Imbongi at The Courtyard on Thursday, July 10, at 7.30pm. To book, call the box office on 0870 1122330 or visit courtyard.org.uk
