Talented youngsters gather for concerts

TALENTED young musicians from across Europe are gathering in Herefordshire this month to learn new repertoire and to give a series of five concerts around the county.

BISYOC, intercultural youth orchestral exchange, are spending 10 days at Moor Park School near Ludlow for a rehearsal period with Julian Gibbons, the driving force behind the project, before giving the concerts, culminating in a spectacular concert on Friday, August 3, to honour the memory of Sir Edward Elgar.

The concert will feature one of Elgar's most memorable works - the Enigma Variations - as well as Delius's Brigg Fair, Korngold's The Sea Hawk and the world premiere of an avant-garde piece by James Saunders.

Preceding the final concert, the musicians will be staging four other events - BISYOC international tutors will present The Soldier's Tale by Stravinksy at All Saints in Hereford and St Laurence's in Ludlow on Monday and Tuesday, July 30 and 31, with world, jazz and chamber music on the programme for a BISYOC concert in St Andrew's, Presteigne, on Wednesday, August 1, and the full concert with its Elgar centrepiece at St Laurence's, Ludlow, on Thursday, August 2.

The exchange programme is made possible by EU funding from Connect Youth International, as well as financial assistance from The Elmley Foundation, The Delius Trust, together with the support of the Rotary Clubs of Hereford Wye Valley and Ludlow.
