On Sunday, October 8 at 3pm at Hellens in Much Marcle, the internationally acclaimed British pianist Mark Bebbington will play a mixed programme featuring some of the best loved works in the piano repertoire.

He has played as soloist in major concert halls around the world, including arguably at the most famous of them all - Carnegie Hall in New York. In this recital, one of Schubert’s most loved piano works (his A major sonata D664) is prefaced by two short sonatas by the prolific and richly inventive Baroque composer Domenico Scarlatti. The first half ends with John Ireland’s impressionistic Sarnia (the Roman name for Guernsey). After the interval, an intriguing new work by the highly respected Malvern composer Derek Smith is followed by two of Debussy’s famous preludes, one inspired by the Breton tale of a submerged cathedral rising from the sea and sinking back into its depths and the second representing a display of fireworks. The recital ends with Chopin’s utterly gentle B flat minor nocturne and his beautiful and emotionally charged Ballade No 1.
