The Choir of Hereford Cathedral, together with an international line-up of soloists, choristers from Holy Trinity Church, Hereford, and period-instrument orchestra Marches Baroque, will perform J S Bach’s St Matthew Passion on Tuesday, April 11, at 7 pm in the cathedral.

The performance of one of Bach’s Passions has become a regular feature of Holy Week at Hereford Cathedral, with the cathedral choir singing the St John Passion and the St Matthew Passion in alternate years. Geraint Bowen, director of music at the cathedral, conducts the performances. "It is always exciting to re-visit these extraordinary works, which never lose their power to move audiences," said Mr Bowen.

The cathedral choir will also be in the spotlight on Easter Day, April 16, when BBC One television will broadcast the morning service of Holy Communion for Easter Sunday live from Hereford at 10am. All are welcome to attend, but must be seated by 9.30 pm.

Tickets for St Matthew Passion are available from the Cathedral shop, telephone 01432 374261 or website www.herefordcathedral.org, or at St John’s Door on the night.
