THE Shire Hall will again be illuminated by the presence of Czech musicians Jan Skrdlik (Cello) and Petra Besa (piano) on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 10, 11 and 12.

Those who were at their concerts last year will know to expect evenings of technical brilliance and emotional intensity.

The recital on Thursday, November 10 will feature sonatas for cello and piano by Beethoven, Brahms and Prokofiev, and on the following evening, Jan Skrdlik's solo recital, in aid of Ross For Refugees, will honour Angel Sanz-Briz, the Spanish Ambassador to Hungary in 1944 who rescued thousands of Jewish families.

In addition to pieces by Bach, Dvorak and Kodaly, Jan will perform "Austerlitz", by the contemporary Czech composer Milos Stedron, and in the course of the Kodaly sonata, Richard Wilson will read Jan's poem "Sanz-Briz and Smile in the Abyss of Time".

On Saturday, November 12, Jan will again join forces with Petra Besa. The core of the programme will be the cello and piano version of Dvorak's celebrated Cello Concerto (on the 120th anniversary of its premiere), and they will also play pieces by Martinu and Janacek.

The recitals at the Shire Hall all start at 7.30pm, tickets available from The Outback/01432 275063, and from Richard Wilson 01209 699982/ 07565 539764"
