ARTS Alive and Arts La’Olam bring the Anna Mudeka Band to Peterchurch as part of a tour to celebrate their latest album, Dendende.

The album nods to a traditional – and very topical - African musical theme of diaspora but packed with melodies and rhythms that speak to all generations and nationalities, with songs in Swahili, Hindi and Shona and rich, soaring vocals.

Mudeka’s mbira (thumb piano) playing takes centre stage, while conga beat and six string bass underpin Zimbabwean rhythms, creating a real fusion of festive sounds, known by fans simply as ‘sunshine music’.

Anna Mudeka is a Zimbabwean-British musician, who as a teenager achieved popular recognition in her native Zimbabwe. She organises a world music festival in Norfolk to raise money for the Mudeka Foundation, a charity that supports the education of AIDS orphans and other disadvantaged children in Zimbabwe.

In recent years The Anna Mudeka Band has been busy touring, performing at Latitude Festival, Drum Camp, private celebrity events, One Billion Rising, Roundhouse London, Passing Clouds, Rich Mix London, WOMAD Singapore... and now at Peterchurch with Arts Alive!

The Anna Mudeka Band will be at St Peter’s Centre, Peterchurch on Friday, October 7 at 7.30pm. To book, call 01981 550372 or visit artsalive.co.uk
