TONY Christie and Ranagri will be in concert at The Regal in Tenbury Wells tomorrow, performing well-loved Irish folk songs from their new album The Great Irish Songbook
Tony Christie was introduced to these songs by his musical Irish grandparents, while Ranagri are a folk band of Irish and English heritage, and the album is the realisation of a dream - to explore a shared cultural history in song.
Tony says "I’ve had many conversations with Dónal Rogers (of Ranagri) over the years about collaborating on a recording of Irish songs, that we grew up with, and which we used to sit around my kitchen table and sing".
Tony Christie and Ranagri chose 12 of their favourite songs to record. The album features an array of songs with outpourings of great joy and deep sorrow; rousing ballads such as 'Black Velvet Band' and 'Star of the County Down', poignant songs of love and loss including 'Carrickfergus', 'When You Were Sweet Sixteen' , 'The Parting Glass'.
Tony Christie and Ranagri will be in concert tomorrow, Friday, June 17 at 7.30pm. To book, call the box office on 01584 811442 or visit regaltenbury.co.uk
