Hereford Musical Theatre Company bring a new type of show to The Tomkins Theatre this spring, with sing-a-long comedy, Girls' Night.

Katie Davis, who has been a Hereford Musical Theatre Company member since the age of 8, and has been involved with the company as a performer, playing The Wicked Witch of the West in previous HMTC show, The Wizard of Oz, and also has played Frau Shrader in The Sound of Music, as well as danced in the front row for tap-happy, 42nd Street now takes a spin in the director’s chair.

On the note of this slightly different performance, Katie says she chose the script because “I love Verbatim theatre scripts. I also know the show so well as I have played the role of Anita twice.”

Girls' Night is a comedy-musical written by Louise Roche, who has said that it was during a Shane Ritchie musical that she had an epiphany. "I could do this," she thought, and then got down to it. While her husband entertained her three young children, all under four at the time, she sat in her Milton Keynes kitchen and wrote Girls Night, a musical comedy about five friends who re-live the past on a wild night out in a karaoke club!

She first put it on with some friends at a local community theatre, with old mates from school doing the acting, a woman she met at her daughter's playgroup doing the set and her mum on costumes, and it sold out for the entire run.

Girls' Night follows the lives of four friends as they gather to celebrate the engagement of Candi-Rose, the daughter of another friend who tragically died in an accident 22 years ago. Little do they know, thought, that they are under the careful watch of a guardian angel.

The plot sees the four women; Carol, Liza, Anita and Kate meet in a nightclub for an evening of karaoke, drinking and reminiscence whilst belting out classic tunes such as ‘I Will Survive” and “We Are Family.”

“This show is one that will have you singing along, dancing, roaring with laughter and also shedding a few tears when you can empathise with these characters,” Katie says.

“This is the first time that HMTC have taken on a show that isn’t your typical West End or Broadway script. It really is one that people can relate to, and allows the audience to go on this journey with these four women.”

“All of the extremely talented cast have worked so hard in such a short space of time. We have really gelled as a team and have directed it together trying lots of different things on the way! The age range is quite big which proves successful through mixing experience with new.”

The cast are currently heading into the final stages of rehearsals. “The show is easy watching and damn good fun! Cocktails, dancing and karaoke - what more could you want on a fun girls' night?”

Girls' Night will run at The Tomkins Theatre from Wednesday 27th – Saturday 30th April. There will be performances every evening at 7.30pm. Ticket prices are £12 adults, £11 concessions. To purchase tickets visit www.ticketsource.co.uk/hmtc or call 0333 666 3366.
