THERE are two opportunities to hear Czech musicians Jan Skrdlik and Petra Besa Pospisilova play two stirring programmes in the Shire Hall.
The two concerts are being given in memory of Sir Nicholas Winton who died recently, aged 105, and who, in 1938-39 rescued 669 Czech Jewish children. His daughter, Barbara, who has lived in Hereford for many years, will speak at one of the evenings.
Jan plays an 1842 Adam Emmanuel Homolka cello with "a rich darkly burnished sound of molten lava ... and daredevil agility", "a cellist second to none", whilst Petra plays a Fazioli piano "in marvellous interpretation."
Tonight's concert opens with the third unaccompanied Bach Cello Suite after which Hereford-based violinist Kirsten Hellier will join them in Beethoven's Archduke, followed by Smetana's thrilling Piano Trio.
On Saturday a feast of Boccherinie, Beethoven, Martinu and Saint Saens will be followed by Cesar Francks's romantic sonata which inspired Victor Rousseau to make a sculpture entitled Ecstasy.
Tickets available from The Outback in Church Street, or from Richard Wilson on 01209 699982. Proceeds to Save the Children and Water Aid.
