TALES of cuckolded molecatchers, a lone oak tree that grows at Gallipoli, medieval pilgrims and more – there are clearly going to be no shortage of talking points at a mini-festival in Hereford next weekend.
The Weirdshire Weekend is the brainchild of local psychedelic folk collective Sproatly Smith, and will feature international and nationally acclaimed acts who have all got a reputation for doing things differently.
Sproatly themselves have been labelled as "the most quintessentially British" purveyors of tuneful psychedelic folk in our isles, while In Gowan Ring (who play on the first night) have built an international fan-base courtesy of a tour schedule that has seen them perform their eclectic odes to audiences in over 30 countries, and Harp and a Monkey (night two) can name-check such folk luminaries as Mike Harding and Mark Radcliffe as being among the flag-bearers of their banjo, harp and glockenspiel-driven storytelling.
The opening chords will be struck on Friday night at The Steiner Academy in Much Dewhurst, when Sproatly will be joined by another stalwart of the Hereford scene, Tobion, as well as In Gowan Ring. Doors open for this one at 7pm.
The following night the entertainment moves to the Hinton Community Centre, in Hereford, when Sproatly will perform again as well as playing host to the local acts Bird Radio and Mark Stevenson in addition to the acclaimed Lancastrian trio Harp and a Monkey. DJ Jus’ Jay will keep the beat until ‘late’. Doors open at 7pm .
Tickets available on the night at both venues.
