HEREFORD-based 2Faced Dance Company has successfully secured £5,000 of funding from PRS for Music Foundation, enabling the company to commission an original score for their next mid-scale touring work, ‘WHO?’.

This funding will allow the company to explore the relationship between music and dance at a unique level, as the choreography for WHO? will be created alongside live musician and composer, Angus MacRae, who recently worked in partnership with fellow composer Alex Baranowski to create the score for the company’s current touring work, Dreaming In Code.

The funding will also be used to support the costs of employing a live musician to work on the project and become part of the performance. WHO? will then tour to venues across the UK and potentially internationally in 2017.

Inspired by minimalism, 20th century romanticism and film music, MacRae seeks to complement traditional instrumentation with influences from the contemporary electronic music world. Often centred around the piano, MacRae is interested in exploring the possibilities of the recorded medium whilst creating music that can still be accessible, emotive and ultimately human.

Talking about the project, MacRae commented: "I'm hugely excited to be working alongside 2Faced Dance again and to be involved with the creation of an exciting new piece of work. By working so closely with a live musician we will have a unique opportunity to create music that is connected to the work on a fundamental level, and offer our audiences fresh perspectives on the relationship between music and dance"
