AARDVARK'S popular annual French-inspired flea market, gets a new look with this year’s live music being provided by Dave Luke’s new band the Poobahs. Consisting of Dave on guitar and vocals, John Hymas on Violin, Clovis Phillips on accordion , and George Jackson on drums, they bring a real toe-tapping feel-good vibe to everything they play.

Aardvark Books husband and wife team Sarah and Sheridan Swinson had long wanted to emulate the French village events that they saw on holiday in France, and in 2008 the first Aardvark Vide Grenier was held on a blazing August day.

As managing director Sheridan Swinson says: ‘ the best Vide Greniers always have some live music from an oompah band, a stall selling delicious and fattening food and a bar selling wine. All these elements we have tried to replicate, as nothing helps the search for a bargain like listening to cheerful music, and enjoying a glass or two of one’s favourite tipple!’

Anyone can book a table at £8 per space, and there are few restrictions on what can be sold. Stalls include local produce, as well as the contents of attics, sheds and cupboards. ( Vide grenier translates as ‘empty your attic)’.
