THE Tan House Singers, a choir from the Forest of Dean, will be spanning the centuries and musical styles in a summer concert in Dore Abbey. Sacred music is a mainstay of English choral repertoire, but for this concert, the choir will be exploring different settings of the familiar words of the Latin mass written three centuries apart.

The first half of the concert will feature the much loved Gloria in D by Antonio Vivaldi. Written around 1716, it is one of the best known choral works of the baroque era, and is full of memorable tunes and infectious optimism. The choir are pleased to welcome back organist Robin Baggs as accompanist.

After the interval, the choir will be joined by jazz trio The Spa Notes in a performance of Bob Chilcott's A Little Jazz Mass. This short setting of the mass was first performed in New Orleans in 2004, and successfully brings together the diverse traditions of Latin mass and jazz idiom. Also by Bob Chilcott, I Share Creation sets texts from cultures around the world exploring man's relationship with the earth. These works will be supported by other short pieces by Chilcott and John Rutter.
