SEVENTIES folk fans are in for an amazing night when two musical legends, Bridget St John and guitarist and songwriter Michael Chapman, perform in Presteigne on a double-header bill.

Bridget St John is a British singer and songwriter who recorded three albums between 1969 and 1972 for John Peel’s Dandelion record label, before moving to New York. Bridget’s impressive voice is deep and resonant, made for melancholy. An extraordinarily accomplished guitar player, Bridget recorded a large number of BBC Radio Session and credits John Martyn and Michael Chapman as her ‘musical brothers’.

Folk and blues man Michael Chapman was also championed by Peel during the same period. A masterful guitar player, a great bluesy singer with a quick dry wit Michael first became known on the folk circuits in 1967 where he established a reputation for intensity and innovation. He signed to EMI’s Harvest label, recording classic albums like Rainmaker and Wrecked Again. Recent collaborations with Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and the American ‘primitive school’ of guitar players have opened up a whole new audience of admirers in the UK, USA and Europe.

Bridget St John and Michael Chapman will be at The Assembly Rooms in Presteigne on Saturday, June 20 at 8pm. Tickets available from The Workhouse, Courtyard Antiques and online at wegottickets.com
