LAST year the Netherlands-based Dutch/Kiwi three-piece My Baby came to the Welsh Borders for the first time to play at the Full Circle Festival near Presteigne, gaining new fans with their loud irresistible dance music, and they're back in the county for the weekend.
Consisting of sister-brother combo Cato and Joost van Dyck and Daniel Da Freez Johnston, My Baby are a band who defy all attempts to be classified.
The trio had shared a guitar tutor in Amsterdam, Frank Sutherland, and picked up his enthusiasm for particular music namely American Indian band Redbone, Sly and the Family Stone, John Lee Hooker, James Brown, country picker Jerry Reed and The Meters from New Orleans. Out of this rag bag of influences the three of them began to construct the distinctive sound that is My Baby today; an exuberant combination of rock sensibility with elements of dance funk, Delta blues and trance.
My Baby have recently finished a highly successful tour of major British venues supporting Seasick Steve and receiving great reviews.
