THE Magdeburg Police Choir, one of Germany’s top choirs will be joining Hereford Police Male Choir for its 58th annual concert at Hereford Shirehall on Saturday at 7pm.

The choir was founded way back in 1952, five years before a police choir was set up in Hereford. But unlike Hereford’s choir, it includes both men and women. They perform regularly in concerts right across Europe and their wide and versatile repertoire stretches from folk to classic and even to modern pop songs. Some of the younger choristers form a chamber choir which sings as part of the concert programme.

Musical director is Tatjana Schemetowa and her husband, Leonid is the accompanist. The couple studied music in their native Ukraine and settled in Magdeburg in the 1980s when Leonid was appointed director of music for the Soviet military in the region at that time.

The Magdeburg choir will also be singing in the gardens at Westons Cider Mill, Much Marcle on Sunday at 2pm.

Tickets for both concerts available on the door.
