JUAN Martín, returns to the Great Barn at Hellens in Much Marcle on Monday, May 11, following his sell-out performance two years ago. Juan is performing as a duo with Chaparro de Málaga to produce sounds that are both melodic and explosive - authentic flamenco improvisation; a musical dialogue between two masters of this great and esoteric art .

The duo incorporate a myriad influences, from the gypsy culture of Rajasthan in Northern India, to Byzantine chants and the Hebraic and Moorish laments of Spain’s colonization of South America - the sounds of Argentina and Cuba are also evident in the rumba, guajiras and milonga.

A native of Andalucia, Juan Martin has recorded 20 albums mostly as a composer and has played with the Royal Philharmonic and greats like Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. He has twice been voted one of the world's top three exponents by 'Guitar Player' magazine, and performed for Picasso on his 90th birthday.
