BRYN Terfel, as the Flying Dutchman, leads a stunning cast in Tim Albery’s Olivier-nominated production of Wagner’s opera, Der Fliegende Hollander, being screemed live around the world on Tuesday, February 24 at 7.15pm. With the full force of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and the Royal Opera Chorus, and Wagner’s engrossing music, this ROH Live Cinema event is not to be missed.

The opera tells of the intense and dangerous attraction between the Dutchman, a man doomed to sail the seas for eternity, and Senta, sung by Canadian soprano Adrianne Pieczonka, the woman whose faithful love could redeem him.

The stark setting of the isolated Baltic community and dark themes of the opera are captured by Michael Levine's atmospheric set designs, including a huge rolling metal hull that looms over the characters representing the oppressive phantom ship.

Conductor Andris Nelsons, acclaimed for his Wagner interpretations, returns to the Royal Opera House to steer the orchestra through the composer's score depicting the violence of the sea and the turbulence of the characters’ emotions, always gripping the imagination of audiences. ..
