THE Wild Hare Club will be injecting some post-festivities cheer by hosting its most ambitious show to date on Saturday, January 31, featuring the ever-popular Blockheads.

The Blockheads are one of Britain’s finest live bands having honed their art since backing the legendary Ian Dury in 1977. These early years have since been immortalised in the award winning feature film Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll.

Now fronted by Derek ‘The Draw’ Hussey, Dury’s best friend and minder, The Blockheads' seven-piece line-up retains Chaz Jankel, Norman Watt-Roy, John Turnbull and Mick Gallagher from the band that recorded the evergreen New Boots and Panties. Their music continues to develop - a decidedly funky, modern-day music hall style that propels lyrics that combine poetry, puns, earthy humour and deadly accurate observations of everyday, British working-class life.

Along with some new material, including songs from the recently released Same Horse Different Jockey, you can expect to hear and sing along to Hit Me with your Rhythm Stick, Reasons to be Cheerful (Part 3), What A Waste, Clever Trevor, Sweet Gene Vincent and many more from the illustrious back catalogue.

Adding some feminine wit and charm to the evening is Bristol-based singer-songwriter Lori Campbell. Armed with a pint sized guitar, ukulele and supreme mouth trumpet skills, Lori promises to knock the socks off even the coldest audience.

The Wild Hare Club will also be joining forces for the first time with fellow local promoters Reggae Pie who will be providing the DJs before, between and after the live acts. Well known for being the county’s premier purveyors of the finest reggae, ska and calyspso tunes, dancing is guaranteed to continue into the early hours.

To book tickets for The Blockheads, Lori Campbell and Reggae Pie DJs at Lyde Court on Saturday, January 31, call 01432 357753 or visit lydecourt.com. Doors open at 7pm.
