TWO years ago Danny Chang and Colin Finnie came up with the idea of forming a community band that would put on a Christmas Rural Variety Show at Garway Village Hall and invited anybody who could play or sing to come and rehearse with them to perform in the show.

The response was phenomenal and for two years running the Christmas show was a sell-out. The band, There Was a Crooked Man, enjoyed themselves so much that they decided they would record an album of original material composed by them. One of the songs, Everything's Going My Way Now, was subsequently chosen by German film makers Caligari to feature in their childrens 3D movie Coconut the Little Dragon, due to be released in Germany and Europe on December 18. Everything's Going My Way Now is a very positive song and was the reason that the producers felt it was perfect for their film about a young dragon that struggles to learn to fly but who, with the help of his friends, finally succeeds.

The members of There Was A Crooked Man all hail from Garway: "It's amazing that there is so much musical talent within the village and that we were able to record the album locally at Piggery Studios," said Colin Finnie. The band members ages range from 20 through to 60 and all come from very diverse musical backgrounds. "We were asked to adapt some of the lyrics and record a children's choir on the finale of the song. Local children Zoe, Eliza, Molly, Saff and Josh did a remarkable job and have really lifted the end of the song," added Danny Chang. The eponymously titled album, There Was a Crooked Man, is due out in November with their album launch gig on Saturday, November 29 at Garway Village Hall.
