THE Rob Lear Band, who appear for Garway Live! on Saturday, boast strong links with music greats Van Morrison and Richard Thompson, having burst on the music scene in early 2013 with the release of a debut album titled Let it Go, mixed and co-produced by Richard Thomson’s Grammy-nominated producer Simon Tassano. The band contains an eclectic blend of instrumentalists including Van Morrison bassist Pete Hurley and they have been selected as Artist of the Week on BBC Radio Wales, playing a host of shows and festivals earlier this year alongside, among others, Seth Lakeman, Amy Wadge, Henry Preistman and Martin Simpson.

Rob himself has toured the UK and Europe, including a residency at Liverpool’s Cavern Club, performances at Wembley arena and playing support to Dodgy, The Mystery Jets, Hayseed Dixie and Bernard Butler. As a dedicated song-smith Rob has been sought after to write for X-Factor finalist Katie Waissel’s new band and Spanish ‘emo’ artist Alen Seed and has written new songs for a new film release by Tornado Films entitled ‘Rain’.

Rob’s first solo recording, ‘A Million Stars’ was a six track EP, the success of which resulted in the title track becoming Single of the Week on BBC Radio. Rob’s second single ‘Little Acorns’, produced by the Manic Street Preacher’s celebrated producer Greg Haver also made Single of the Week. This success gradually attracted a unique and eclectic supporting band of musicians which added cello, djembe, accordion, bass and guitar to Rob’s live line up, forming the Rob Lear Band.
