THE Market Theatre in Ledbury is the venue for Arts Alive’s latest foray into world music and dance, when Ballet Nimba bring their stunning show Bagatai to Herefordshire.

Cardiff-based Ballet Nimba is led by the irrepressible Idrissa Camara of Guinea and combines musicians and dancers from across West Africa to produce dynamic and exciting dance theatre with amazing musicianship and percussive beats that will delight you. Bagatai was inspired by Camara’s recent trip back to his father’s homeland and delves into the often secretive world of the Baga, a people revered and even feared for their art and beliefs. With many members of the company from the Griot traditions of West Africa, Ballet Nimba seeks to celebrate those traditions and to establish African dance as a living, contemporary, dynamic art form. Expect traditional masks, colourful costumes and brilliant dance.

The reviews say it all: “Self-styled ambassadors of West African culture featuring an excitingly dynamic show…furious percussive beats, soaring vocals, mesmerising flute and rootsy acoustics.. Acrobatic dance thrown in for good measure. Outstanding entertainment."

Ballet Nimba will be at The Market Theatre on Saturday, November 8 at 7.30pm. To book, call 07967 517125 or visit themarkettheatre.com
