ON Saturday, Gilbert and Sullivan lovers have a treat in store, as the award-winning Hereford Gilbert and Sullivan Society present a sing-through of that most popular of Gilbert and Sullivan comical topsy-turvy shows, The Pirates of Penzance.
Pirates will be the Society's next major production at The Courtyard in 2015, and everyone is welcome at St John's Methodist Church in St Owen's Street to sing (or just listen to) the show from 2pm.
The afternoon will start with a short chorus rehearsal led by musical director Alan Durman, which will be followed by a sing-through of all the songs in the show. No experience is necessary, and sheet music will be provided.
Rehearsals for the show will be starting on Tuesday, September 9 at 7.30pm at 31 Castle St, but no commitment to these is required for attendance at the sing-through.
A cast of soloists has been press-ganged into singing the solo parts on this occasion, including the modern Major-General, the Policeman whose lot 'is not a happy one' and regular guest, professional tenor, Russell Painter, singing the role of Frederic, the apprentice pirate.
