THE Titley Jazz Festival, which opens tomorrow at The Rodd near Presteigne, this year celebrates its 5th anniversary, presenting some of the leading musical talents available on the British modern jazz scene.

Over just three days 14 sessions deliver a veritable cornucopia of jazz, with sessions presented in the main marquee and featuring groups that vary from duo to big band, with the option for enthusiasts to book for individual sessions or for the whole weekend.

The festival opens tomorrow at 12 noon, with the afternoon's opening session featuring a group new to Titley – the James Brownfield/Liam Byrne Quintet ‘Plays Ellington’. The second session of the day starts at 7pm, kicking off with Steve Waterman Buddy Bolden Blew It, and the third from 9.30pm features Anita Wardell sings Johnny Mandell with the Alan Barnes Octet.

The Clark Tracey Festival Quintet opens the Saturday morning proceedings at 11am, and the early afternoon session commencing at 1.30pm features the Jim Mullen Organ Trio plus Stan Sulzman.

Saturday evening’s performance sees the Don Weller Quartet take to the stage, followed by the Peter King/Mornington Lockett Quintet from 9.30pm. Sunday's line-up includes the Jim Mullen/Mick Hutton Duo, de Jong’s Cleynderts, and the full National Youth Jazz Orchestra playing Duke Ellington and Count Basie.
