A BAND that's been around as long as Bromyard Gala will come together again to perform at this year's even.

Seventies rock band Poverty Corner established themselves back then as a 'rock band with attitude', touring out of their Bromyard base to perform throughout the UK and in Germany. As well as winning acclaim in their own right, they backed Eddie and the Hotrods and the Frankie Miller Band, then among the country's chart-toppers. Their fame led to a solo tour of Germany, a resident season in the Bus Stop nightclub there, and shows for US service personnel.

Following their successes, the band members were in demand for major live and studio performances with renowned performers such as the excellent Steve Gibbons and Mott The Hoople's keyboard maestro Verden Allen.

They may be older but Poverty Corner haven't lost any of their dynamism and they're currently updating their impressive repertoire and rehearsing their many classic arrangements of hits by The Doobie Brothers, Aerosmith, Free, The Rolling Stones and The Who, among others.

The band's first 'revival' venue is in aid of their home town's famous Gala: "The gala's always been a major event in our lives," said Steve Palmer, "so we're getting back off the rails to rock the night away at the Gala Queen Dance, which takes place this year for the very first time as part of a new programme of 'Gala Fringe' events. We intend to pack the place out - all profits go to help fund the Gala itself."

Poverty Corner play tomorrow at the New Gala Field on B4214 at Avenbury, near Munderfield. Reserve tickets on 01885 488510 or from Bromyard TIC.
