HEREFORD Musical Theatre Company is taking a trip down Memory Lane and leading them on their way is director George Powell who is coming out of retirement to celebrate 45 years with the company with a handpicked selection of his favourite songs from the shows.

"It's hard to believe that 45 years have passed but in that time I have seen many changes to musical theatre in Herefordshire. The turning point for HMTC was in the seventies when we were fortunate to purchase our own headquarters (recently named The Tomkins Theatre), and founded our amazing youth group. The establishment of a permanent rehearsal/clubroom enabled the company to grow from strength to strength and the society changed its name from Hereford Amateur Operatic Society to Hereford Musical Theatre Company to reflect a move towards musicals."

“George has always been at the heart of HMTC," says chairman Paul Morris. "In his time with the company, he has done most jobs and is currently treasurer. He has directed numerous productions for the company, including firm favourites Oklahoma, My Fair Lady and Fiddler on the Roof as well as the challenging La Cage Aux Folles. It is great to have him directing this year’s Memory Lane and it is a fitting tribute to all of the hard work and commitment he has given to the company.”

Memory Lane runs at The Tomkins Theatre in Whitecross Toad from Wednesday, July 2 to Saturday, July 5. To book, call 01684 562155
