GLASBURY Arts and Theatr Brycheiniog are delighted to announce the award of an Arts Council Wales grant towards the running costs for their fourth annual Harp Summer School to be held from Wednesday, August 27 to Saturday, 30 August 2014.

The Harp Summer School offers workshops and master classes for up to 40 young (and not so young) people and artists to help improve their harp playing in a range of genres, and, new for 2014, provide the opportunity to learn accompaniment to other instruments, musical arrangement … and work with a tap dancer!

The school will be led by renowned harpists and tutors Harriet Earis (jazz/fusion harp and improvisation), Lily Neill (Celtic harp) and Royal Harpist Hannah Stone (classical harp).

Workshops and master classes will be run over the first three days at Gwernyfed High School, Three Cocks with rehearsals and a performance at Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon, on the final day, culminating in a gala concert featuring students and teachers.

Previous years’ participants have ranged in age from seven to 70 and in ability from Grade 2 upwards. All students participate in workshops from each of the tutors.

The 2014 summer school will build on previous schools, and is open to both new and past students at beginners, intermediate and advanced levels.
