THE Choir of Hereford Cathedral will be joined on Tuesday at 7.30 pm by Marches Baroque and a host of international soloists for its annual performance of Bach’s St John Passion.

The combination of a choir of men and boys with Marches Baroque, playing on period instruments, aims to recreate the sort of sound that Bach would have known.

"Since the formation of Marches Baroque in 2004, it has collaborated with the cathedral choir on a number of highly acclaimed performances of Bach’s St John Passion and other works by Bach," said Geraint Bowen, director of music at the cathedral. "The St John Passion brings to life the drama of Holy Week as it is recounted in the fourth Gospel. The choristers, being boys, particularly enjoy the bloodthirsty crowd scenes in which they sing.’

Joining the choir will be soloists James Oxley Evangelist, David Shipley Christus, Lucy Bowen soprano, James Neville countertenor, Paul Smy tenor and Peter Savage bass.

The evening is supported by the Alan Cadbury Charitable Trust.

Tickets available from the Cathedral Shop; The Outback, Church Street; or through the Perpetual Trust office (01432 374261).
