THE Seven Last Words of Christ by Haydn will be performed by the Dragonfly Ensemble at St Michael's Church in Discoed on Wednesday.
Led by Marcia Crayford on violin, leader of the Nash Ensemble for 25 years and co-artistic direction and leader of the Mid Wales Chamber Orchestra, the Dragonfly Ensemble's members - Lowri Porter violin, Susie Meszaros viola and Moray Welsh cello -are all distinguished musicians who have held key posts in many of the country’s top orchestras and chamber groups.
Haydn composed The Seven Last Words of Christ in 1785 at the request of Marques Valde-Inigo, Bishop of Cadiz. There was a Lenten custom in the Church of Santa Cueva to have spiritual exercises and a Passion play.
"The Seven Last Voices" by Michael Dennis Browne, to accompany the performance, will be read by Revd Preb Stephen Hollinghurst. The concert takes place in St Michael's church where the exhibition,
