THE Astaria String Quartet will play works which all have associations with Prussia when they give a recital at the Lion Ballroom in Leominster.
The programme comprises the fifth of Haydn’s six Op 50 ‘Prussian’ quartets, composed in 1787, a work of elegance and sophistication; Schumann’s deeply poetic second quartet Op 41 No 2, written in 1842; Smetana’s gripping autobiographical quartet, entitled ‘From my Life’, composed in 1876; and, most recently, Janacek’s dramatic first quartet dating from 1923 and bearing the title ‘Kreutzer Sonata’, being based on a Tolstoy novel of the same name.
The Astaria Quartet is a young and vibrant ensemble, who have gained the accolade of Quartet in Residence at Huntingdon Hall, Worcester.
The Astaria Quartet will perform at The Lion Ballroom on Sunday, April 6 at 3pm.
Tickets available from Gill’s Gifts, Buttercross Arcade, Leominster, 01568 611588 or on-line from the Orpheus Box Office at orpheus-events.com
