HEREFORD Choral Society will be performing Sir George Dyson's The Canterbury Pilgrims, marking the 50th anniversary of the composer's death with a rarely heard work.
The concert will be preceded by a talk by Dr Lewis Foreman, the renowned writer and authority on Dyson, which is free to ticket holders and begins at 6.15pm.
The Canterbury Pilgrims is an entertaining piece that would be a particularly enjoyable introduction to choral works for anyone who has not previously attended such a concert. For seasoned listeners it offers a glorious chance to enjoy Dyson’s colourful orchestration, equally colourful characterisations and wryly humoured text.
The orchestra for the concert will be the Hereford Sinfonia, conducted by Geraint Bowen and the concert features the acclaimed soloists Eleanor Dennis (soprano), John Mark
Ainsley (tenor) and Simon Bailey (bass).
