TWENTY years of concerts for Craswall will be marked by the summer orchestral performance in Dore Abbey in July, but to start off this year of celebratory concerts five superb chamber musicians will perform the String Quintet in C by Schubert.
Written just two months before his death, this is generally acknowledged to be one of the greatest pieces of chamber music of all time. Two pieces for string trio complete the programme - the first is an arrangement of a Bach Prelude and Fugue by Mozart, and the second an early Trio in C minor by Beethoven.
Interpreting these great pieces will by Katharine Gowers and Tom Hankey playing violins, James Boyd on viola, and husband and wife Martijn Vink and Amy Norrington playing cellos. They have all played for Craswall since they were students, and we have watched their development over the years. They now frequently play together, but each one of them is in demand internationally as individual chamber and solo musicians, and they are all looking forward to performing the great Schubert Quintet together in St. Michael’s Church, Michaelchurch Escley on Friday, March 7.
