MID Wales Opera return to The Courtyard on Saturday with their production of Acis and Galatea, a musical masterpiece from one of the greatest composers of all time – George Frideric Handel - with words by poet John Gay, best known for The Beggar’s Opera.

The opera tells an enchanting story from ancient mythology: Acis is the son of the spirit Pan and Galatea is a nymph of the sea. They fall in love, only to be thwarted by the monstrous Cyclops, Polyphemus. In a jealous rage he murders Acis, leaving Galatea bereft. In her despair, she turns the blood of her dead lover into a river, forever flowing into the sea.

Mid Wales Opera and co-production partners the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama are joined by members of Brecon Baroque Ensemble to present a very special production of this beautiful and entrancing opera.

Acis and Galatea will be at The Courtyard on Saturday at 7.30pm. To book, call the box office on 01432 340555 or visit courtyard.org.uk
