SCHUBERT'S song-cycle Winterreise will be performed at the Lion Ballroom, Leominster on Sunday, February 9 at 3pm.
This work is considered by many to be not only one of Schubert’s towering masterpieces, but the finest song cycle ever written. It sets to music 24 poems by the German poet Wilhelm Müller and was published in 1828, the last year of Schubert’s short life. The story is a sad one, telling as it does of the heartache of unrequited love, but is set to such sublime music that the listener is held captive as the story unfolds. The work will be performed by the baritone William Coleman and pianist Philip Collin.
Tickets available from Gill’s Gifts, Buttercross Arcade, 01568 611588 or online at orpheus-events.com
