D-day is approaching for young musicians THE deadline for entries for the Young Musician of Malvern competition is fast approaching and talented young musicians must apply by Sunday, November 30.
The competition is open to young people aged between 11 and 21, with a prize of £500 and the opportunity to perform in the Forum Theatre for the winner.
“This competition is open to all young people, and we are receiving interest from all over the country,” says Sophie McLellan, education officer at Malvern Theatres.
“It’s not an exclusive competition open only for experienced classical musicians; we want entries from all walks of life, playing all genres. It’s going to be a celebration of exciting young talent.”
Soloists can enter one of five categories (wind, brass, strings, percussion, and keys). Heats will be held in February 2009 and a winner from each category will go through to the final in May 2009. Entrants will need to provide their own accompanist.
Entry forms are available online at malvern-theatres.co.uk and from the box office. For further details call 01684 580943.
The Young Musician of Malvern competition is part of Malvern Festival’s 80th anniversary celebrations in 2009.
