Week of song with difference THE English Choral Experience is a singing week with a difference in the magical surroundings of Abbey Dore – it is about much more than the hard work of a group of singers.

A series of evening recitals features Mark Bebbington playing works by John Ireland, Howard Ferguson, Ivor Gurney and Francis Pott on Monday, July 21; Philip Lancaster talking about the music of E J Moeran and George Dyson on Tuesday, July 22; Joseph Spooner (cello) and Mark Opstad (piano) playing works by Moeran, Dyson and Geroge Macfarren on Thursday, July 24; and an English song recital with Susanna Spicer and Mark Opstad on Friday, July 26. Each one-hour recital starts at 9pm.

The climax is a concert in Dore Abbey on Saturday, July 26, at 7.30pm, in which choral director Paul Spicer directs the English Choral Experience choir and soloists singing a programme including Purcell’s My Heart is Inditing and James MacMillan’s Divo Aloysio Sacrum.
