Timon of Athens streamed live from National Theatre

SHAKESPEARE’s Timon of Athens will be streamed live from the National Theatre at The Courtyard and other local venues on Thursday, November 1.

Starring Simon Russell-Beale as Timon, and set in modern times, this is a strange fable of wealth and power, debt and ruin. Ostentatious host, friend to the rich and powerful, and wealthy patron of the arts, Timon of Athens is surrounded by free-loaders and sycophants. He vastly outspends his funds but, finding his coffers empty, reassures his loyal steward that all will be well. When Timon calls upon his associates for financial assistance, instead of offering help they hang him out to dry. After a final, vengeful banquet, Timon withdraws to a literal and emotional wasteland, eating nothing but roots and pouring curses on a morally bankrupt Athens.
