WORLDWIDE superstar Billy Ocean was the first headliner announced for this year's Concert of Legends event at Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Saturday, September 9.

But the late summer concert will certainly live up to its name, with other mega-legends in the mega-line-up including The Boomtown Rats, Ray Lewis of the Drifters, Odyssey and Paul Carrack.

Billy Ocean is the one of the biggest recording stars that Britain has ever produced, having sold more than 30 million records "Billy got his first break when he signed to GTO records," says a Concert of Legends spokesperson, "for whom his second single was the Motown-ish Love Really Hurts Without You, which reached No 2 in the UK charts and No 12 in the US.

"Two top 20 singles followed; Love on Delivery and Stop Me, then Red Light Spells Danger became a smash in both the UK and the US, and the rest is history."

Dubbed by the BBC as "The Man with the Golden Voice", Paul Carrack is a key figure in British pop history, an all-round musical talent.

"Across four decades, countless Carrack performances have quietly made their mark on the collective consciousness, including Ace’s How Long, and Mike and the Mechanics’ hit, The Living Years."

The original Boomtown Rats broke up in 1986, but reformed in 2013, albeit without Johnnie Fingers or Gerry Cott, and though they might not like Mondays - their 1979 single I Don't Like Mondays, reached No 1 in the UK and became a worldwide hit - they do love performing. They also sang on the Band Aid record Do They Know It's Christmas; which, in its first week of release, became the UK's fastest selling single of all time.

Odyssey are one of the most successful soul/disco acts of their era, with classic hits including Native New Yorker, Use It Up And Wear It Out.

Legend and former lead singer from The Drifters, Ray Lewis, will also take a bow.

A spokesman said: "Ray was originally with The Drifters spanning the period 1980 to 1988, and now recreates that great sound of Motown for which he was famously known."

The Concert of Legends will take place on Saturday September 9, from 1pm to 11pm.
