The music of Jacques Brel will be celebrated when a trio of local singers bring their cabaret revue, Alive and Brel, back to The Courtyard after successful performances in Bristol, London and Birmingham in the past year.
Among the artists who have recorded a top ten hit song written by Brel are Dusty Springfield, Scott Walker, Mark Almond and Terry Jacks, not to mention Frank Sinatra, David Bowie and Shirley Bassey.
The show features popular hits such as Ne Me Quitte Pas (If You Go Away), Jackie and Amsterdam as well as other iconic songs which have been likened to miniature films that paint a vivid portrait of imperfect humanity with all of its passions and flaws. The intimate cabaret setting of the Courtyard’s Studio Theatre will provide the perfect backdrop for a celebration of Brel’s place as a cornerstone of French culture.
Singers Tim Brown, Alison Allan and Steve Allan have been praised by Stagetalk Magazine as ‘a surprise package, where the blending of the voices was particularly pleasing and gave the performance originality.’
Alive and Brel will be at The Courtyard on Friday, April 21 at 8pm. To book, call the box office on 01432 340555 or visit courtyard.org.uk to book online.
