The great English soprano Dame Emma Kirkby will be singing at St Catherine’s Hoarwithy in the annual Holy Week Concert on Wednesday, April 12.
The main work to be performed is the great Stabat Mater by Giovanni Pergolesi (1710-1736). Composed in the year of his death at the age of only 26, Pergolesi’s setting is for two sopranos and Dame Emma will be joined – not for the first time - by mezzo soprano Catherine King and an ensemble of period instruments of the Musical and Amicable Society directed by Martin Perkins from the harpsichord. The first part of the programme will be sung and instrumental pieces by English composers of the 17th century, including Henry Purcell and his contemporaries.
Tickets are available from Rossiters Books in Ross-on-Wye, 01989 564464; The New Harp Inn, Hoarwithy; and by sending cheque to PCC of Hentland & Hoarwithy with SAE to Dason Court, Hentland, Ross-on-Wye HR9 6LW. For further information, call 01989 730439.
