WYE Theatre company present a stage version of the well known Oscar-winning film On Golden Pond at The Powell Theatre until Saturday.

Simple affection is so rare in plays. Shyness and resentment are also seldom seen. Love is much talked-about, but how often do we really believe that the characters are in love and not simply in a pleasant state of lust and like? On Golden Pond is a treasure for many reasons, but the best reason is the believability in its major characters and their relationships, and in the things they feel for one another.

The story of On Golden Pond begins with the arrival of an old, long-married couple and at the lakeside cottage where they have summered for many years. Norman is a crotchety, grouchy old professor whose facade conceals his own shyness and fear of getting old. Their solitude is soon interrupted by their estranged daughter her boyfriend and his son

Ernest Thompson has written a play furnished with wonderful scenes which offers a play with a heartwarming story of love but with an edge.

On Golden Pond will be at The Powell Theatre, Church Street until Saturday. Tickets are available from wyetheatre.co.uk or the Outback in Church Street.
