NEARLY 30 pupils from Class 5 at Kingsland Primary school spent a day attending a series of art workshops, run by Chris Bates and David Lewis, to give them an understanding of the processes that go into creating art, from installation art made from materials found in the surrounding landscape, to more traditional forms of art and sculpture.
They had a hugely enjoyable day learning new skills, and they were also given a tour of Riversdale Gardens and the newly restored 16th century barn where they saw a varied collection of art and sculpture exhibited by 25 artists and sculptors during h.Art week.
The workshop was one of several events organised for the Art in Nature exhibition which runs until September 20. The barn, unused for over two generations, at one time the village laundry, has been sensitively restored in time for the exhibition.
The owner and co-organiser of the Art in Nature exhibition James MacRae, was delighted to welcome the pupils from Kingsland School to Riversdale and hopes that the new gallery will play a useful role in the community as an arts and educational venue for a variety of groups and organisations in the county.
