Herefordshire Marmalade Festival certain to a-peel

MARMALADE is well and truly on the menu in February, as the annual Herefordshire Marmalade Festival takes place coinciding with the first ever National Marmalade Week running from February 25 to March 3.

Paddington would be in his element.

The Herefordshire Marmalade Festival, the brainchild of marmalade enthusiast Mary Sheldon, features a tasty selection of marmalade- infused events in Bromyard, kicking off with Marmalade Jam at The Falcon, a feast of music and food from 7.30pm.

On Saturday, the Conquest Theatre will be the venue for Just a Marmalade Minute, a fun quiz and buffet at 7.30pm. Throughout the weekend, entries (including one from Ireland and another from France) in the marmalade competition will be accepted and judged, with the awards presented on Sunday at the Marmalade lunch.

Clearly, where Bromyard leads, the nation follows, as the first ever National Marmalade Week runs from February 25 to March 3. One producer sure to be marking the event will be Mike Carnell of Hayon- Wye, better known as the founder of Chef on the Run Foods, whose exciting range of marmalades is garlanded with awards.

Chef on the Run’s grapefruit and ginger marmalade is a three-star gold award winner, with his whisky, orange and walnut, rum and raisin and chocolate and orange among the varieties taking one-star gold awards.

Mike is hoping that his marmalade will take yet another award during the week when the winners of the seventh annual World’s Original Marmalade Awards are crowned on February 25 and 26.
