Christmas at Herefordshire Farmers' Markets

IN the run-up to Christmas, delicacies are available from all round the UK, but why do we want cheese from Leicestershire or a turkey from Norfolk when we already have some of the finest celebration foods on our doorstep, and with additional farmers’ markets throughout December, there’s plenty of opportunity to buy locally grown food for your Christmas larder.

Christmas sprouts picked hours before the market from both Court Farm Tillington, and award-winning vegetable supplier Chris Wilkes.The Country Flavours stall will have their popular free range eggs for Christmas baking and will also be selling Christmas hampers and jute gift bags packed with locally sourced goodies.

Order free range turkeys or geese from the farmers’ market in Hereford or Leominster and they will be delivered to the Hereford farmers’ market on December 22, or collect your bird from Tudge’s farm in Richards Castle where mulled wine will be served.

Other Christmas delights at the markets include Christmas sausage rolls with stuffing and apple, real ale beer breads made with Wye Valley Beers, Christmas Bakewells and special nut roasts such as Chestnut and Mushroom and Brazil Nut and Cranberry, while plant stalls have beautiful holly wreaths and potted cyclamens for Christmas colour.

New to the heart of Hereford is The Lorentzen bakery shop in Capuchin Yard, where fresh baked bread is available every day as well as on farmers’ market days.

Take a break from Christmas shopping at Café@All Saints where the menu features some delicious Christmas lunches all featuring locally sourced produce.
