A STOURBRIDGE music promoter is teaming up with legendary singer Suzanne Vega to help street children in Latin America.

Eddy Morton, from Katie Fitzgerald’s in Enville Street, is set to support the international star at a gig to raise cash for Casa Alianza, a charity dedicated to helping homeless youngsters in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

The gig, which is also being promoted by Katie Fitzgerald’s, is set for Sunday July 12 at Birmingham Town Hall and is so far the only UK show to be announced on Suzanne’s summer tour of Europe and Asia.

Suzanne said: “I am really glad that Casa Alianza came up with the idea of this concert and am really happy to be taking part.

“Casa Alianza is an organisation which becomes deeply involved where it sees the need. It offers help, education and legal representation for children who are living on the streets.

“I love English audiences and really hope they come out to support us.”

Widely regarded as one of the most brilliant songwriters of her generation, New York based Suzanne emerged as a leading figure of the folk-music revival of the early 1980s.

Her self-titled debut album, released in 1985, was a platinum-selling success and was followed in 1987 with the album Solitude Standing which contained the hit singles Luka and Tom’s Diner.

Eddy Morton is a well-know musician and songwriter both as former frontman with urban hillbilly band The Bushburys and as a solo artist.

He has played gigs around the world supporting leading artists including The Saw Doctors, Manfred Mann and Lindisfarne.

Eddy said: “We are delighted that a singer songwriter of such international renown as Suzanne Vega is supporting us with this benefit concert.”
