AT the end of last year, local amateur poet Joyce Clare visited Hereford College of Arts to thank students who had provided the illustrations for her recently published collection of poems, Poems that Granny Wrote.
Joyce had invited students on the BA honours illustration course to illustrate her poems. The students were captivated by both the poems and Joyce herself, and presented a diverse range of original artwork for her to choose from.
Joyce then had the difficult task of deciding the most suitable illustration for each poem – and was so impressed with the students’ commitment that she decided to feature all the submitted artwork on the front cover.
Joyce presented a copy of her book, printed by Orphans Press in Leominster, to each participating student and gave a cash gift to the illustrators of the winning designs.
