OLIVER Bullough will be following in his brother Tom’s footsteps when he appears at Hay Festival, talking about his book Let Our Fame Be Great.

Tom Bullough launched both his first and second novels at the festival, A and The Claude Glass, in 2002 and 2007 respectively.

Now Oliver, former Reuters’ Moscow correspondent, and currently Caucasus editor for the Institute for War and Peace Reporting, appears there to recount the marvellous testimony he encountered on his “journeys among the defiant people of the Caucasus”, who’ve resisted Russian colonial aggression for more than 200 years.

The germ of the idea for Let Our Fame be Great came when an elderly woman asked him: “When are you writing your book?” The idea took root as a way to describe the conquest of the Caucasus Mountains.

Though Oliver now lives in London, Tom – runner-up for the Wales Book of the Year prize in 2008 – lives just outside Brecon, his father Will runs the sawmill in Whitney-on-Wye, and his mother Jenny is a successful yoga teacher, based in Clifford.

Oliver Bullough will be in conversation with Francine Stock at Hay Festival on June 5 at 10am. To book, call 01497 822629 or visit hayfestival.com.
