THE best-selling classical artist of 2011, guitarist Milos Karadaglic, will perform at Malvern Theatres for one night only on February 24th. The talented virtuoso won widespread acclaim for his debut album Mediterraneo with one critic saying that Milos’s playing ‘shone a brilliant light on the entire heritage of his instrument’.
Milos’s Malvern programme will focus on that heritage and has as its centerpiece a series of preludes and etudes by the Brazilian composer Hector Villa Lobos. These pieces explore all aspects of guitar technique as does the famous trio of works Asturias, Granada and Sevilla by Isaac Albeniz, which will also be performed, alongside music by Fernando Sor, Carlo Domeniconi and JS Bach.
Born in 1983 in Montenegro, Milos grew up during the time of the recent Balkan War, and began playing the guitar at the age of eight. He and his family found that music provided reassurance, and a means of escaping the trials and tribulations of living in a war-torn country. From the age of 16, he studied in London at the Royal Academy, winning the coveted Julian Bream award. As a scholarship student, Milos now works extensively to support young talent, specifically as a patron of the Awards for Young Musicians charity.
